Welcome to the website of Railway Protection Force. RPF has emerged
from a diversity of systems to grow into its present status of an
unique Armed Force of the Union vested with legal powers to arrest,
investigate and prosecute. The maintenance and security of
Railways, the vital artery of national communication and economic
progress has been a major concern of the Government of India that
goes back to the times when the Railway commenced their operations
in India in 1854. Since railways have a linear territory traversing
inter-state lines, a corresponding linear security has been hard to
provide and the force is faced with an ever increasing variety of
problems. The nation has great expectations from RPF.
It
was against this backdrop that the RPF Act and the Railway Act were
amended and RPF has been given responsibility to protect and safe
guard Passenger area and Passengers as well as to arrest and
prosecute offenders under the Railways Act. In this context, Dr. APJ
Abdul Kalam, President, Republic of India, during his address to the
RPF personnel on the occasion of President's colour presentation
ceremony-cum-parade, held at the Headquarters of 6th Battalion, RPSF,
Delhi on 22.05.2006, stressed upon the need of adopting latest
technologies, particularly the use of information technology for
providing opportunity to access a variety of information at a faster
pace. The RPF website is one of the steps taken to visualize RPF as
a modern Force, serving the Railway Passengers. Your suggestions and
feedback through this website are welcome and would certainly help
in enhancing the performance of the Force. Let all of us resolve to
serve the nation with honour and glory and achieve the highest
standards of professional efficiency to ensure security of
Passengers, Passenger areas and Railway Property on Indian
Railways.
